MAL Agar stroked an unbeaten 111 in Warrington’s draw with Cheadle in the Cheshire County League First Division.

Agar and Richard Heaney gave Warrington the perfect start with an opening stand of 117.

But four wickets fell cheaply and the home side found themselves back in the game until Agar was well supported by captain Liam Heaphy, 22. Warrington finished on 196 for 5.

Warrington took wickets at regular intervals, with good contributions from Steve Carlile, Steve Heydon, 2-54, and Charlie McElroy, who chipped in with two quick wickets.

Cheadle were struggling at 112 for 7 but a good ninth-wicket partnership of 59 came to their rescue as they finished on 171-9.

Warrington’s second XI defeated Cheadle Hulme by 53 runs but their innings started at a snail’s pace.

D Baxter (41) and M Gwatkin (60) got the score moving, enabling the tail end to put willow on leather, taking the score to 179 for 8.

Opening the bowling, L Nunn rolled back the years and, together with spin king N Houghton, had the visitors tied down before part-time bowler J Mitchell removed the danger man.

Houghton, Sleigh and promising junior Waldron then tore through the opposition’s batting to bring Warrington’s first victory of the season.

Warrington’s third team defeated Upton by eight wickets.

James Tilstone picked up four wickets and Ryan Swart bowled two great spells to reduce Upton to 61.

Veteran batsmen Tim Rothwell and Mike Lindop made sure of a Warrington victory.

Warrington’s fourth XI made the most of being asked to bat in their win against Irby.

Veteran Mans Naseem was the top scorer with 73, well supported by Billy Gilbert, Tom Corroboy and Ally Jardine to post 208 for 6.

Irby were under pressure from the first over, with the star of the bowling being wicket keeper Tom Lloyd, who injured his hand in the warm up and returned to fill a bowling gap with the impressive figures of six overs, five maidens, two runs and three wickets.
