GRAPPENHALL claimed their first win of the Cheshire County League Division One season after a three-wicket triumph against Timperley on Saturday.

An excellent new ball spell from Gareth Burns, in which he took three early wickets, saw Timperley reduced to 39 for 3 after 13 overs.

A positive 47 from Mark Leathley helped put some impetus into the innings but a disciplined spell from Cameron Park of 3 for 36 backed up by Steve Titchard’s 2 for 21 saw Grappers bowl Timperley out for 133 in the 54th over.

In reply, Grappers lost the early wicket of Iain Wright and things got worse as they slumped to 58-5 after an excellent spell from overseas player Matt Wilkie.

A gritty innings of 36 from Liam Parkinson and an aggressive innings of 35 not out from Cameron Park saw Grappers reach their target to record their first win of the season at the third attempt.

Grappenhall’s third XI progressed in the Jack Gardner Cup with victory over Poynton.

Openers Les Connolly, 35, and Mark Tyerman, 21, got off to a good start and Neil Muttuck continued the good work with 54 before Brad Angel contributed a fine 36.

Grappenhall managed a creditable score of 193 for 8 from 45 overs.

Poynton struggled to make runs because of fine bowling from James Edgerton, 3 for 14, Ashley Higham, 2 for 19, Neil Muttock, 1 for 6, Jack Critchley, 1 for 23, and Jamie Edgington, 1 for 6.

Poynton scored 119 for 8 from their 45 overs.
