THE best is yet to come from Wolves utility back Chris Bridge.

Since returning from a ruptured Achilles tendon that limited him to just two games last season, the 24-year-old has gradually started to find his form.

Impressive performances at centre against both Bradford and Huddersfield gave supporters hope he could develop a potent partnership with Chris Hicks on the right side.

By his own admission, Bridge was not at his best as Wolves suffered their first defeat in three games against Hull KR on Sunday.

But he is regaining confidence and fitness with every game he plays and feels his game can only continue to improve as the season goes on.

He said: “Being out for so long, it was always going to take me a little while to find my feet and I think I’m getting that bit of sharpness back.

“It’s just good to be back playing with the boys after so long, you don’t feel part of the team when you’re in with the physio all the time.

“It’s always going to take you a bit of time to get back up to speed in Super League after being out for so long but I feel better every week I play, in terms of my fitness and sharpness and a bit of everything really.”

Despite being critical of his own performance against Hull KR, Bridge is confident he can continue to deputise at stand off in the absence of the injured Lee Briers.

Bridge partnered Michael Monaghan in the halves, with Briers sidelined by a hamstring injury and he admitted he enjoys playing pivot more than centre.

He said: “I like playing half because you get lots of ball and that’s what you want.

“But if I’m playing centre I still do like playing there as long as I get lots of the ball, which I do playing outside Briersy.

“I don’t feel pressure coming in for Briersy, I just go in and try and do my best for the team.

“I’ll have to practice my kicking this week because that wasn’t up to scratch against Hull KR and I think it cost us.”

And despite the contrast in style with Briers, Bridge says Wolves do not have to make too many alterations in their gameplan when he slots in at 6.

He added: “I’m more of a running half back and Briersy’s more of a creative half back.

“But we just try to fulfil the gameplan and I think we did that against Hull KR attacking-wise because we scored 28 points and bombed a few tries as well.

“If we just tighten up our defence it’ll be fine.”
