IESTYN Harris insists Featherstone Rovers are “pretty confident” going into their Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth round tie against Warrington Wolves despite admitting that he expects an “onslaught” from the engage Super League side.

Harris, aged 32, started his professional rugby league career with the Wolves before enjoying spells at Leeds Rhinos, Cardiff RU and Bradford Bulls.

This year the Welsh legend has been reunited with his former Leeds team-mate Daryl Powell at the Chris Moyles Stadium and Harris believes that Featherstone have a chance of causing a famous Cup shock.

Harris said: “Warrington are coming into this game as big favourites with the likes of Adrian Morley, Garreth Carvell, Lee Briers and Michael Monaghan. We expect an onslaught from them and it’s going to be extremely difficult, but we’re in good form ourselves and we’re pretty confident.

“It’s a massive game for everybody. As a club, Featherstone Rovers are progressing pretty rapidly at the moment both on and off the field. This is a chance for the club to show how far they’ve come in such a short space of time. It’s exciting and everyone will want to put up a good display.”

Harris admits that putting up a good display for Featherstone’s fans is one of the players’ top priorities this weekend.

He said: “The fans of Featherstone have had a bit of a roller coaster ride over the last 10 or 12 years. It’s quite a while since they’ve been in the top flight and had a team they can be proud of, but Daryl’s creating that at the moment.

“There is still a long way to go in the journey but a good performance against Warrington would be another step in the right direction. Rovers are a club with a vision for the future and I’m loving it here.”

He continued: “It’s a while since the club has got this far in the competition. If we can spring a surprise it will certainly be entertaining for us. The competition as a whole, with the final going to back to Wembley, is just a very special thing for rugby league. That emphasis of Wembley and what it’s all about is very special for the Carnegie Challenge Cup. The opportunity to get to Wembley for all the players is something very unique and something every rugby league player wants to do in their career.

“I was lucky enough to win at the old Wembley in 1999. To see what it is like now would be an amazing experience and I’d love to get down there and have a look around.”

As a dual code international, a former Man of Steel and a winner of the Carnegie Challenge Cup, engage Super League and Carnegie World Club Challenge, Harris has achieved more than most during an illustrious career.

He said: “I’ve played a lot of games at the top level now and I’ve had a really good career. I’m enjoying it at Featherstone and I needed a freshen up. They’ve given me another focus. It’s dropping down a level but I’m enjoying other aspects of the game.”
