TWO Warrington rowers are in line for World Cup action in Spain later this month.

Olympians Richard Egington and Olivia Whitlam have been ‘nominated’ by GB Rowing, with final selections to be announced in the next few weeks.

Current Warrington Sports Personality of the Year Olivia Oakes, who contested the women’s pair in GB trials in Belgium last month, has not been earmarked for a place so far but the women’s eight crew is yet to be announced and may figure there.

Former Warrington Rowing Club ace Egington, who became the first Warrington-born Olympian last summer, switches from the eight to the four for his first international appearance since Beijing.

He said: “There’s that sense of unfinished business after (winning silver in) Beijing, and things have started positively.

“Being in the smaller boat is a bit more personal than in the eight.”

The ex-Lymm High School pupil will have company in the four from Leander clubmate Alex Partridge, Matt Langridge from Northwich and Alex Gregory from Reading University.

Whitlam, from Daresbury, who rows at Agecroft Rowing Club in Manchester, has been nominated for the women's pair with Louisa Reeve after dominating the trials as they build on a partnership that only came together two months before the 2008 Olympic regatta, in which they were finalists.

The World Cup series starts in Banyoles, Spain, from May 27-31, continuing in Munich, Germany, from June 19-21 and finishing in Lucerne, Switzerland, from July 10-12.
