WARRINGTON Wolves are finally getting there.

Sunday’s success marked the first occasion in which Wolves have put exceptional back-to-back performances together this year, showing the signs of an all-important consistency factor.

The combinations and work ethic that paid dividends so handsomely at Bradford Bulls a week earlier, were replicated in what was probably the best performance of the season so far at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Huddersfield came to town with the chance to go second in the Super League table, defending an unbeaten away run stretching back 10 games to last July.

But a pack found to be intimidating by most teams held no fears for Wolves’ Adrian Morley, Garreth Carvell and Ben Westwood.

And when the groundwork was done, Giants then got to taste the ‘Chris’ of death, with Messrs Hicks, Bridge and Riley clinically finishing off the explosive pack play and craftsmanship of half backs Lee Briers and Michael Monaghan.

Goal kicker Hicks has formed a lethal right-sided partnership with Bridge for the last two games and crossed for his second hat-trick in a row, adding 24 points to the 30 at Odsal.

Bridge’s smart distribution, with his half back experience showing well, put Hicks over twice and provided another score for Riley, whose 60-metre second touch down on the counter attack from a Huddersfield chip kick raised the roof and was every bit as thrilling as his try of the season contender against Bradford.

Wolves, looking more composed and sure with themselves in attack and defence, impressed in the way they coped with disruption.

Vinnie Anderson’s best display for some time softened the loss of his injured brother Louis from the start, while Wolves maintained their rhythm after losing both Monaghan and Ben Harrison for spells with cuts from a clash of heads.

Simon Grix, mainly used in the centre this year, looked accomplished when he came on in his more accustomed loose forward position, while Jon Clarke was a real trooper as he rotated through hooker, half back and back row jobs.

And just like some of the slick handling that led to tries, it all shows a growing confidence in the ranks.

That confidence was obvious from the start as two tries in the opening five minutes from Matt King and Hicks put Wolves into a lead that they never looked like losing.
