TONY Wilson reports a good net of roach from Worthington Lakes where he legered double maggot using a ground bait feeder to catch 29 fish from 6ozs to 1lb.

In addition he had a perch of 2lbs 10ozs 0drms and two bream. But 10-year-old Luke Banks stole the show on Monday, landing a stunning common carp weighing in at 18-4-0.

Martin Iredale gave the re-vamped Fosters Pool complex his seal of approval where he was impressed with the transformation brought about by the hard work of Warrington Anglers’ Association’s dedicated volunteers, as well as the fishing.

Using waggler and corn tactics he had a common of 8lbs, 12 smaller mirror and common carp, rudd, and roach.

Cicily Mill Pool has switched on after an unusually slow start, with members reporting good catches of tench, bream, and quality crucian carp.

John Sumner alternated double maggot and corn for a mixed catch of roach, bream, and tench estimated at over 30lbs.

Carp are starting to feed again at Grey Mist Mere with a few mid-20s coming out over this past week.

Tench to over 6lbs and quality roach have been reported by match anglers taken mainly on caster and pellet.

The roach at Appleton Reservoir have been conspicuous by their absence and our match on Sunday was a pathetic affair.

I know that the fishery has been blighted by cormorants, proof of which is evident from slashed and damaged fish.

A number of poachers’ lines have been found on our fisheries so I would ask members to be extra vigilant and report anything suspicious including vehicle numbers to the Environment Agency/Police and to the club immediately.

These lines are cruel affairs consisting of large baited treble hooks pegged to the bank.

As announced at our annual meeting, we have now launched an experimental single fishery licence to cover solely the Bridgewater Canal from Broadheath to the A580 at Leigh including the Kraft Arm.

The idea is to give local anglers, especially youngsters, legitimate access to our fishery for a modest payment in the hope they ultimately join as full members.
