IRENE Reardon and Jean Wanbon have started the new bowls season on fire.
They have followed up a women’s pairs success at Pensby, Wirral, with a win in the Warrington Afternoon Bowls League opening pairs competition.
Reardon and Wanbon fended off a field of more than 160 bowlers to secure the Warrington title, defeating Ann Crank and Lillian Hall in the final at Victoria Park.
The St Oswalds partnership had a tough ride before triumphing at Pensby in a competition they last won in 2006.
They egded out Wirral’s Jane Jones and Gay Cooper 21-20 in the final but had to overcome the hurdle of homesters in the first round and the previous year’s winners in the last 16.
