Eagle 26 Knutsford 12

EAGLE clinched survival in South Lancashire and Cheshire Three after a 26-12 win against Knutsford on Saturday.

From the start, Eagle were stronger and scored when the unlikely figure of prop Mike Bridge appeared in the backline.

Bridge ran in from 20 yards out and dummied the covering defence to score on six minutes.

Eagle went further ahead through an individual effort by Jack Bainscyk, who chased down a John Whelan kick before collecting it on the halfway line and running in from 50 yards.

Knutsford replied with a try of their own from good forward work but Eagle went back on the attack and after several forward phases, Ashley Losh drove over.

Mike Whelan scored at the start of the second half but then Eagle seemed to lose some structure and spent the last 25 minutes defending.

Inevitably Knutsford scored but Eagle held on for victory.

The season is now over for Eagle’s first team but Eagle seconds have one game left against Southport at home on Saturday.
