SIX Warrington Rowing Club members contributed to the north west region’s first ever victory at the Victor Ludorum competition on Saturday.

The north west won with 270 points and also took the girls’ trophy with 132 points, while finishing second in the boys’ trophy with 138 points.

The girls’ team gained two gold, two silver and a bronze medal and the boys’ team gained one gold, four silver and a bronze medal.

Representing Warrington Rowing Club in the event at Nottingham’s National Water Sports Centre were Oli Brierley, who rowed in a J15s double scull, and Frankie Sinnott who rowed in a WJ16 quadruple scull, both gaining silver medals in their composite crews.

Also competing were Alison Bailey and Emily Clarke, who finished fifth in the WJ16 double scull ‘A’ final and J16 pair Sam Holder and Tom Leather, who also came fifth in the ‘A’ final.

There are 12 regions involved in the Amateur Rowing Association, each of which held selection trials earlier this year before competing against each other at the weekend.

A total of 25 events were contested, with two heats of six for each class, from which two final races were selected on a time basis – the A and B finals – meaning each crew gained points for their region with gold, silver and bronze medals being awarded in the A finals.
