WARRIORS of Warrington Swimming Club were impressive in the second round of this year’s Bolton and District Mini League on Sunday.

Competing against teams from St Helens and Bolton, the nine-year-old girls’ relay team, consisting of Claire Evans, Siobhan Harrison and Anya Richardson, were worthy winners of both the freestyle and medley relays.

And their double success was replicated by the boys’ team of Nathaniel Bellamy, Liam Roscoe and Hugh Takemoto.

In the individual freestyle events, Abbie Greenwood was first for the 11-year-old girls and James Collins runner-up for the 11-year-old boys.

Thomas Pye was first for the 10-year-old boys, with Holly Mitchell runner up for the 10-year-old girls.

There was a win for Ewan Docherty in the 12-year-old boys’ category, while in the 12-year-old girls’ category, Emily Briddock came second.

The backstroke events saw further victories for the Warriors team, with Jacob Wass, Aaron Kirchin-Brown, Ciara Rohan and Thomas Sutton winning the 10-year-old boys, 12-year-old boys, 11-year-old girls and 11-year-old boys respectively.

Catherine Ross and Lucy Bradley were runners up in the 10 and 12-year-old girls respectively.

Further success came in the breaststroke when Ewan Docherty and Aaron Hill won their events.

There were second-place finishes for Catherine Ross in the 10-year-olds, Harry Pollock in the 11-year-olds and Zoe Carroll in the 12-year-olds, while Sian Knott finished third for the 11-year-old girls.

Abbie Greenwood, Aaron Kirchin-Brown and Sam Cooper won their butterfly races comfortably; with Zak Albin finishing runner-up and Holly Mitchell and Charlotte Kent finishing third in their respective age groups.

The afternoon ended in triumph, as both the boys and girls won the mixed age group medley relays and the Warriors team finished as overall winners by three points.

WARRIORS of Warrington achieved six medals and 15 final placings at the tough Birmingham Open.

Medals were harder to come by than normal because the meet was organised into junior, nine to 13, and senior, 13 plus, sections rather than individual age groups.

But the club still secured one gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Warriors were also awarded the Dave Corbett Cup for the most improved club based on a comparison of meet times to entry times.

Notable performances were put in by Aaron Kirchin-Brown, with 18 personal bests, James Ross, with 13 personal bests and Dominic Crawley, Adam Ravenscroft and Aaron Hill, who each swam 11 personal bests.

Kirchin-Brown was also rewarded for his marathon effort in competing in all of the 18 events on offer, as well as two junior finals, more than any other competitor.

He was awarded the inaugural Andy Jackson trophy by the organisers.
