Crosfields 72 Egremont Rangers 16

CROSFIELDS ended the season on a high, recording their highest ever score in the National Conference League.

Man of the match Phil Bannon led the way with four tries as Soap crossed 13 times, adding 10 goals.

The opening 10 minutes was close, as Crosfields opened the scoring but Egremont hit right back to level at 6-6.

Crosfields took the lead again when a Richard Hough grubber bounced kindly for Inman to score but it was a nine-minute spell in the middle of the first half, which set the tone for the rest of the match, as the Lucas brothers, Ian and Dave, crossed for tries, while Bannon got his second.

Moving the ball around well, Crosfields crossed for two more tries before the break.

An inside ball from Inman put Anthony Monks through for a try, then a big hit from Ian Boden turned defence into attack and allowed Hough to score.

With Monks kicking five first half conversions, Crosfields led 38-6 at the break.

The rout continued as Chris Burgess pounced on a loose ball to touch down before Bannon notched his third and fourth tries in quick succession.

Jack Murray crossed for Egremont but Soap scored again when Matt Thomas collected Bannon’s grubber.

Stand-in captain Dave Boden was rewarded for his hard work with a simple try and, although Egremont hit back through Daniel Graham, Matt Barber barged his way over to complete the scoring for Crosfields.

With Monks and Hough sharing five conversions, the final score was 72-16.
