LEE Briers shunned personal accolades to highlight his team mates’ contribution to unlocking Wolves’ previoulsy hidden attacking talent on an extraordinary night at Odsal.

On his return to the side after missing two games with a thigh strain, Briers was centre of attention, having a hand in eight of his side’s 10 tries as they cruised to a 58-22 win. It was a sensational return to form for both Briers and Warrington.

During the 30-year-old half back’s brief spell on the sidelines, Wolves lost twice while scoring a paltry 22 points.

But he was quick to downplay his own influence on the revival, even though his starring role came while still not fully fit.

He said: “We played really well as a team, we stuck to the gameplan and it worked. We’re buzzing but we’ve just got to carry that on now.

“I don’t really know what changed. We enjoyed it out there and there was no pressure on because we managed to score early.

“We’re capable of that performance but we need to be capable of putting three or four performances together.”

He added: “The thigh’s not fully fit but it’s not concerned me too much.

“I enjoyed it, getting back to a bit of form. I was hitting a bit of form before the injury so I was a bit gutted about that.

“But it makes my job easy when the rest of the players play like they did today.

“We’ve just got to keep building on that. It’s a good win but it’s only one win and we’ve got to move on to Sunday’s game.”

Briers’ performance was one that suggested he still has plenty to offer to Wolves and, despite speculation linking him with an end-of-season move to Barrow, he insists he would like to stay at Wolves.

The ambitious Cumbrians have money to spend and are rumoured to have targeted Briers, who is yet to start talks on an extension to his current Wolves deal, which expires in November.

He said: “Obviously it’s always in the back of your mind but I’ve just been trying to concentrate on my rugby and I’ve not thought too much about it.

“It would be nice to stay at Warrington but the club might want to go in a different direction, you never know. We haven’t started to talk about it yet.”
