LYMM’S hopes of second place and a level six promotion play-off spot in North Two West were wiped out on Saturday without even playing.

Second-placed Rossendale beat Altrincham Kersal to seal their top-two spot ahead of their visit to Lymm on Saturday in the final game of the season for both clubs.

Lymm will be happy with their form in the second half of the season and they should be strong contenders for promotion in the next two seasons.

Lymm’s third XV eased themselves out of the Miller Homes Division Two South relegation zone with a 68-10 victory over Winnington Park seconds on Saturday.

* LYMM under 12s, the current Cheshire champions, topped their group at the Nottingham Festival over Easter.

The format of the tournament sees the semi finals and finals held at Twickenham as a curtain-raiser for the Guinness Premiership final, which is being played on May 16.

Top try-scorers in the festival, Lymm were unbeaten in a group comprising Llandaff, Ripon, Salisbury, Bishop’s Stortford, Cobham and Northampton Old Scouts.

In their semi final Lymm will play Wimborne, with the other semi final being between Barnstaple and Ripon.
