Moss Bank Bulldogs 22 Woolston Rovers 30

WOOLSTON Rovers’ top-of-the-table defeat of Moss Bank had all the pressure and excitement of a cup final.

Rovers pulled six points clear of Bulldogs at the top of North West Counties Amateur Rugby League Division Four thanks to Saturday’s success, although Moss Bank have two games in hand.

Moss Bank held six-point leads early in each half but Rovers were stronger in the final quarter, securing their win in the final five minutes.

With 15 minutes remaining, and the scores level at 18-18, Woolston took the lead as Lawley crossed for his second try and Chris Mellor converted from the touchline.

Moss Bank struck back with a try but the kick went wide.

Leicester then made a break down the left and Mellor brought the ball back inside for man of the match Mike Briggs to dive over for the winning try, converted by Mellor.
