GRAPPENHALL Cricket Club’s first XI enter the new season with aspirations of a second successive promotion.
The team start their Cheshire County Cricket League First Division campaign at Poynton on Saturday, while their first home game will be against Heaton Mersey on April 25.
They will again be led by former Lancashire player Steve Titchard and are hoping for good cup runs following last season’s marginal defeats to eventual winners in two competitions.
Grappenhall’s second XI will have Mark Bell in charge for the first time.
There are several challenges facing the seconds, with some new playing staff and some players having departed. A good start to the season, kicking off at home to Sale on Saturday, will be key to a chance of a strong campaign.
Grappers’ third XI will again be led by Paul Tyerman this season.
The hopes for the thirds are the same as every year, with the key being to remain in their division.
There will be chances for younger players to stake a claim in 2009.
The thirds start their season at home to Bramhall on Sunday.
