Warrington Town 0 Skelmersdale United 4

TEN-man Town were left feeling slightly aggrieved after losing 4-0 to Skelmersdale United on Friday.

Yellows will feel they should have got something out of this game, especially after the string of chances they enjoyed in the first half.

Chris Gahgan had an early opportunity before Jimmy McCarthy hit the post and Phil Hadland saw his shot tipped away by Skem keeper Ryan McMahon.

But the visitors were not without their own chances and Mike Stewart was called on to head the ball off Warrington’s goal line.

As the first half wound down, McCarthy went close again but neither side could find the breakthrough.

That finally came in the 63rd minute when a fould by Tom Hardwick gifted Skem a penalty and saw the defender sent off.

Michael White comfortably converted the spot kick to give his side a somewhat undeserved lead.

But Town should have equalised only a minute later when Gahgan turned his marker and fired towards goal, only to see his effort rebound off the upright.

Skelmersdale doubled their lead on 68 mintues when Chris Almond hit a low drive that went under Richie Mottram.

Martin Crowder added the third on 73minutes before former Town player Kevin Towey picked up the ball to beat Mottram and seal the win.

Mottram had to be on hand again with a fine save in the dying minutes of the game.
