WOLVES boss Tony Smith deflected attention from Chris Hicks after he missed a last-second conversion to hand Salford victory on Friday.

Hicks was handed the chance to steal a draw for Wolves after Ben Westwood's try on the final play pulled them to within two points.

But, despite kicking two earlier touchline conversions, Hicks pulled his final attempt wide and Reds claimed an 18-16 win.

Smith was keen for his full back not to dwell on his miss and said responsibility for the defeat should be shared among the entire squad and coaching staff.

"He’s feeling as bad as anybody at the moment and I feel for him. He’s in the spotlight," said Smith.

"When he kicks the winning goal he’s not going to take all the credit for winning that game and when he misses that goal and we don’t get a draw or we lose the game, he doesn’t take all the demerits for it either.

"We all share in it, that’s what we do as a team.

"Each one of us and that goes from coach through to player can look at that game and think ‘I could have done something a little better myself’ so we all share in it.

"I don’t want him dwelling on that. It was a big moment for him because he was in the spotlight.

"The rest of us make errors and it often goes unnoticed. He kicked pretty well aside from that one."
