MICKEY Higham believes Wolves’ could use the gruelling week ahead to kick-start their Super League campaign.

Warrington face a tough schedule of three games in eight days, taking on Salford today, Castleford on Monday and then Bradford next Friday.

But, following a run of three straight wins, Higham hopes the week can be used to build momentum.

Confidence and belief are slowly filtering back into Wolves’ squad and the England hooker says they now need to develop consistency.

“There’s still a lot of improvement left in this team, we’re nowhere near firing on all cylinders but the good thing is we’re grinding out wins,” he said.

“Hopefully we’re getting a bit of consistency now because that’s what separates the good teams from the average teams.

“You can’t play well every week but we need to learn to start grinding out wins, get mentally tough.

“It’s a tough week but there’s nothing better than playing rugby, the games come thick and fast.

“If we can take six points from our next three games that would cement us up there and get our season going.”

Looking forward to today’s clash at The Willows, Higham anticipates a more confident Salford team than has been seen during a six-game Super League losing streak, following on from their shock 22-18 Challenge Cup win at Hull on Sunday.

He is also wary of the threat posed by a Cas team who have surpassed all expectation so far this season.

But Higham believes Wolves should fear nobody on their own patch and is looking to make The Halliwell Jones Stadium a fortress, starting with Monday’s game, kick off 3pm.

He said: “We’ve got two tough games, Salford on the back of a great win in the Cup. “They’re probably looking at it like their season starts now so they’ll be full of confidence, especially at home with that Willows crowd behind them.

“We’re on the back of three wins, so we’re getting back in the winning habit and we’re confident we can go there and do the business.”

He added: “You look at Cas this year and they’re nicely nestled in the top four and they’re a tough team.

I’m not surprised because Terry Matterson looks like he’s a quality coach. He’s got them well drilled and they don’t make many errors.

“They can also score some points, they’re a good attacking side.

“It’s going to be a big ask for us but we’ve had three wins now in a row so we’ve got to get back to making this place a fortress.”
