St Edwards Old Boys 24 Eagle 23
EAGLE suffered a narrow defeat at St Edwards Old Boys to leave them third from bottom in South Lancashire and Cheshire Three with one game left to play.
The visitors started well and quickly took a three-point lead through the boot of captain John Whelan.
A length-of-the-field interception try saw St Edwards go ahead but Danny Cahill went over for Eagle 10-7.
After a great run from John Whelan, Mike Bridge scored to extend their advantage but St Edwards dug deep and scored just before half time.
A mistake from the kick off allowed the hosts to take a one-point lead.
Eagle crossed the line twice but errors at the last moment prevented them from scoring and they had to settle for three points.
An injury to Cahill meant Eagle had to play 30 minutes with 14 men and St Edwards scored two penalties to win by one point. Eagle entertain Knutsford on April 18.
