Carlisle Centurions 14 Warrington Wizards 70

A WIZARDS side including 10 new signings produced a spectacular display of rugby league to run in 12 tries.

Wizards opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Scott Davidson collected a clever chip from Billy Sheen to score, Warren Ayres converting, before Darren Forshaw scored in the right corner 10 minutes later Straight from the restart, Shaun Gilmour scored after a 50-metre run from Adam Gorman before another great break from Graham Healey put Sheen over, Ayres converting both.

The purple patch continued when hooker Craig Cornelia scored and good work from Gilmour and Ayres saw Sheen race over. Ayres goaled both times to establish a 34-0 lead after 25 minutes.

To their credit, the home side never gave in and were rewarded when Steve Potter twice forced his way over.

But Wizards came out of the blocks strongly and Reddecliff raced 40 metres and score after two minutes before Sheen completed his hat-trick, Ayres adding the extras on both.

After Carlisle had Jackson sin-binned for dissent, Cornelia and Gorman both scored, Ayres goaling twice.

Gareth Barron then powered his way over, Ayres adding the extras, but five minutes later, Centurions’ Andy Holcroft pulled one back.

In the closing stages, Carlisle had stand off Craig Stalker sin-binned for punching and Jackson was sin-binned for the second time, along with Wizards prop forward Andy Forber after a skirmish.

Wizards finished on a high when Ayres scored and goaled himself.

Man of the match was Sheen.
