JIMMY Lowes will pick the team for Wolves’ clash with reigning champions Leeds Rhinos on Sunday.
Although new head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith has already begun involvement in training, he does not yet feel ready to choose who will face his old club.
Instead Lowes will retain control of selection and Smith said he would support his first-team coach in whatever decisions he makes.
“I’ll be participating in training in some form or manner on Saturday morning and on game day alongside Jimmy as well,” said Smith.
“I’m on board from here on in.
“I’ll have a major say in picking the team but I won’t have sole say.
“Whichever club I coach, I consult with members of the coaching staff.
“I will take responsibility from here on in but I will use the people around me with the knowledge they’ve got at the moment in a big way.
“I trust Jimmy’s judgements and I’ll support Jimmy in any sort of way until such time as I can make some assessments myself.
“It’d be crazy for me to come in here and try and pick a team for this week when I don’t know the circumstances of all the players.
“I support Jimmy this week and I trust him and support him right through.”
