NEIL Reynolds admitted to being mystified as to how his Warrington Rylands side’s winning run came to an end on Saturday.
Blues were beaten 1-0 by Ilkeston Town at Gorsey Lane, with Jamie Walker’s early goal proving to be enough for the play-off chasers to earn victory.
That was despite a generally dominant display from the hosts, but they could not find an equaliser and as such, their five-match winning streak in all competitions was brought to a halt.
Having survived intense pressure to shock Scunthorpe United in the FA Trophy last weekend, it was a case of the shoe being on the other foot for Rylands but Reynolds could find few complaints with what he saw from his men.
“Congratulations to Ilkeston – they did to us what we did to Scunthorpe last week,” he said.
“How we didn’t score is beyond me – you had to be here to believe it.
“We were brilliant – we could have defended their goal a bit better and we gave them that opportunity, but the second half was just wave after wave.
“We were on the front foot, we played brave and we were going forward. Everybody who came to the stadium today can see that we’re going in the right direction.
“Sometimes you don’t win when you deserve to win, but with the run we’ve been on we’ll have to accept it and try and start one again.
“They will know they’ve had to work hard and ride their luck to get three points here today.”
