WHEN Warrington Wolves’ 2025 fixtures were released yesterday, they contained quite a significant quirk.
After hosting Hull FC in Round 16 (Friday, June 27), the Halliwell Jones Stadium will not see action again until Wigan Warriors visit in Round 21 (Friday, August 8).
That is a total of six weeks without a home fixture and the interim period will include four consecutive away games – at Salford, Catalans, Castleford and Leigh – with their two-week break sandwiched between.
Such a sequence is not uncommon in Super League, with clubs who share their stadia with football teams often having lengthy spells without a home game to account for pitch maintenance.
With Warrington being the HJ’s sole tenants, however, it has got plenty wondering about the reasoning.
The Guardian understands that, like those who ground share, a series of pitch repairs is being undertaken at The Wire’s home ground over the summer, when conditions for doing so are at their most optimal.
The period without a home fixture will be used to carry out more extensive work on the playing surface.
Things do balance themselves out, however – four of the five matches before that period are home fixtures, as are four of the five that follow it.
There have been several maintenance projects going on in and around the stadium, with certain areas of the ground given a fresh coat of paint over the summer.
Work is also being done to cosmetically improve the look of the stadium's exterior, which had started to become rusty in recent years.
