AFTER conceding a try in the opening minutes against Sefton on Saturday, a long afternoon looked to be in store for Warrington RUFC.
As responses go, however, theirs was pretty spectacular as they blew their visitors away.
While Sefton may have scored from a five-metre lineout after Warrington failed to properly claim the kick-off, that was as good as it got for the Merseysiders as the hosts turned on the gas to run out 51-7 victors.
They ran in nine tries in all with Sam Bennett, Tom McNiff and Jack Rigby all crossing twice.
It was Bennett who got Warrington on the board after Sefton’s opener and then once Ryan Newton had crossed to give them a 12-7 lead – aided by Matt Beeley’s conversion – they never looked back.
McNiff’s first try sent them into half-time 10 points ahead, but they really cut loose after the break.
Bennett’s second and two from Rigby either side of a Josh Downes effort had the game won, Kyle Cherrett then added his name to the scoresheet before McNiff rounded off the scoring with Luke Turner booting a further two conversions.
Warrington are at home again on Saturday as they turn their attention to the Lancashire Cup and a tie against Broughton Park.
