WARRINGTON Rylands pulled off a seismic shock in the FA Trophy this afternoon.
Matt Regan’s second-half winner allowed Blues to stun National League North giants Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park, with Neil Reynolds’ side holding on to secure a 2-1 victory.
They had fallen behind in Lincolnshire as Kian Scales put the Iron ahead, but George Waring levelled matters for Rylands shortly afterwards before Regan’s winner stretched their winning run in all competitions to five matches.
They now face a potential clash with National League opposition when the draw for the third round takes place on Monday.
However, neighbours Warrington Town will not be in the hat as they fell to another scoreless defeat to exit the competition.
Yellows were beaten 3-0 at Southport, who won 2-0 at Cantilever Park in the Liverpool Senior Cup on Tuesday, to stretch their run of games without a goal to five matches.
Luke Burgess’ first-half double put the Sandgrounders in command at Haig Avenue, with Sonny Hilton rounding off the scoring in the game’s final stages.
