IMOGEN Wharton was Warrington Athletics Club’s stand-out performer at the latest Manchester Area Cross Country League meet on Saturday.

The second round of this year’s tournament saw Wharton win the under 17s women’s race by more than 90 seconds in a time of 25mins 40secs.

And combined with the efforts of clubmates Olivia Haselden (8th, 30mins 16secs) and Evie Green (12th, 30mins 41secs), Warrington were victorious in the team standings with 21 points. The club’s representatives in the same age group’s men’s race were Elliot Taylor (23rd, 25mins 42secs) and Harvey Howard (33rd, 27mins 20secs).

For the boys, Alex Farrell and Alfie Furnival finished fourth and fifth respectively with the former’s time of 8mins 52secs seeing him five seconds quicker than his teammate.

Tristan Tickle (21st, 9mins 43secs) completed the counting team, with the squad completed by Leonard Broadhurst (31st, 10mins 6secs) and Percy Booker (47th, 11mins).

Emilia Gandy led the girls’ A team home with a magnificent third-place finish in 9mins 29secs with Ivy Davidson just nine seconds behind in fifth and Ava Hardman (28th, 10mins 28secs) completing the line-up.

The B team of Ettie Rashud (36th, 10mins 48secs) and twins Edie and Bella McArthur (49th, 11mins 32secs and 54th, 11mins 42secs) were the fourth-fastest B team and 14th in the overall team standings.

The under 13s age group saw the girls team of Grace Rashud (14th, 16mins 45secs), Bethany Roberts (18th, 16mins 57secs) and Lois Johnston Starrs (25th, 17mins 19secs) combine for a fourth-place team finish, with Charlotte Andrew (55th, 19mins 33secs) completing the squad.

In the same age group, Harry Millar (15mins 23secs) ran well to place 11th in the boys race, with Aiden Losty (21mins 35secs) placing 62nd.

The Warrington girls also place fourth in the under 15s age group thanks to the efforts of Emily Kinsey (8th, 20mins 8secs), Evie-May Williams (14th, 20mins 47secs) and Eva Hayes (24th, 22mins 9secs) while Elizabeth Lees (30th, 22mins 55secs), Jaycee Morrison (34th, 23mins 8secs) and Ruby Brazier-Kobus (42nd, 24mins 6secs) combined to be the second-fastest B team.

For the boys, Alfie Blizzard (18mins 52secs) and Euan Lawton (19mins 6secs) finished 13th and 14th respectively with Thomas Darbyshire (40th, 22mins 12secs) completing a team that placed sixth.

There was an age-group victory for Steve Watmough in the senior men’s race, with his time of 39mins 28secs being the fastest for an athlete aged over 60 as he placed 128th overall.

Adam Rashud (35mins 51secs, 2nd over 40) was the first Warrington runner to finish followed by Watmough, Jonny Leatherbarrow (216th, 42mins 14secs) and Dave Norman (245th, 42mins 55secs, third over 60).

Rachel McQuillan (14th, 33mins 42secs) led home the Warrington contingent in the senior women’s race followed by Claire Andrew (25th, 34mins 51secs, 3rd over 45), Faye Lawton (140th, 40mins 36secs, 19th over 35), Joy Ashcroft-Carter (241st, 45mins 15secs, 18th under 20) and Sharon Taylor (297th, 48mins 22secs). The masters team of Claire, Faye and Sharon finished in 28th place.
