MORE details can now be revealed about Warrington Wolves’ plans for pre-season training.
With The Wire having reached the Challenge Cup Final and the Super League semi-finals, they were in action in 33 of the 34 gameweeks during the 2024 campaign and as such, they will start their preparations for 2025 at a slightly later date.
It is understood players will begin reporting back for training on Monday, November 18, with a phased return being implemented starting with younger members of the squad.
Senior players will begin returning the following week, with the club’s overseas contingent and those currently on international duty set to report back from the beginning of December.
As usual, pre-season will be split into two blocks either side of a break for the Christmas period but this time around, there will be a key change.
Having kept their training entirely on these shores last time around – including a military camp led by ex-special forces soldier and former star of Channel Four’s “SAS: Who Dares Wins” Ant Middleton – the squad are set to head for an overseas training camp in Tenerife in January to fine-tune their preparations for competitive action.
Upon their return, at least one pre-season friendly will be played in honour of Toby King’s Testimonial year, with the date and opposition yet to be confirmed.
Warrington’s first competitive fixture will be in the Challenge Cup over the weekend of February 8-9, with the 12 Super League clubs entering the competition at the third-round stage and guaranteed to face a lower-league side away from home as part of a revamp of the knockout format.
It is understood the Super League season will get underway the following weekend, the Rugby Football League confirming fixtures would be unveiled next month.
One of The Wire’s Super League fixtures for 2025 is, of course, already locked in – Round Three will see them face Wigan Warriors at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 1, in what will be the first Super League fixture to be played in America.
