PAUL Carden says he will continue to “search everywhere” for new players to freshen up his Warrington Town squad.
And while there is money available to do so, he insists they must be careful about how it is spent.
The departures of three players in recent weeks – defender Tom Hannigan and forwards Gez Sithole and Matt Grivosti – have freed up some wage budget for Carden to use in order to bolster his squad.
Although injuries have started to clear up, with defender Peter Clarke and striker Josh Amis having made their returns, the Yellows boss feels “one or two” fresh faces would make a big difference.
He admitted to having some near misses over the past week in terms of recruitment but insists he will not be deterred.
“We hit the bar on a couple over the weekend which I feel would have helped us, but it just keeps going,” he said.
“There’s a little bit of money available to bring one or two in, which would massively help us.
“We’re not going to be going out and spending transfer fees and stuff like that, but it’s finding the players.
“I speak to managers at all levels and it seems to be the same story – it’s tough to find players for whatever reason. That’s why it’s important that the lads we’ve got stay on it and stay fit.
“When we do bring people in, they’ve got to be the right fit because we can’t waste it. It’s too important.
“We’ll search everywhere to get a player in – it doesn’t matter if they’re from Sunday league, if we feel they’re the right fit we will bring them in.”
Yellows hit the road on Saturday as they visit Darlington buoyed by their midweek home victory over National League North high-fliers Hereford, who arrived at Cantilever Park with an unbeaten away record.
The 2-0 victory yielded Town’s first win on home soil since late-August and also ended a run of 11 games without a clean sheet.
And Carden says that defensive solidity is something they simply must retain.
“What we can’t be is gung-ho – from what I can gather, we’ve been too open and strung out and it can’t be that way,” he said.
“If that means changing things to get results, so be it.
“We’ve got good players in the final third of the pitch who can cause teams problems, but we need to make sure we’re tight at the back.”
When asked if the Hereford result is one that can kick them on, he added: “It really should be, because it was really spirited.
“It’s been a long time since we won at home, and that should lift us.
“Your home form has to be what moves you up the league, because going away in this league is really tough.
“To get the points we have is a really good return in terms of the away games, but we certainly need to be better at home.”
