WARRINGTON Rylands were denied a second straight midweek away win by a late equaliser at Matlock Town on Tuesday.

Remaye Campbell rose highest to head home a corner in the 89th minute to ensure a share of the spoils for the hosts, denying Blues the chance to move out of the Northern Premier League Premier Division relegation places.

Will Russ, who joined on loan from Southport last week, had marked his first start for the club with a goal to give his side the lead at the break, with the frontman firing home from Ben Hardcastle’s cross.

However, Campbell’s leveller means Neil Reynolds’ side remain 19th in the table – two points adrift of safety – ahead of their attention turning back to the FA Trophy on Saturday as they prepare to host Ossett United.

'A really good point,' says Reynolds

After the game, Blues boss Reynolds admitted Matlock's late equaliser was merited, with his side unable to hold on for another priceless victory.

Having taken four points from three consecutive away fixtures, however, it is a return he is happy with.

"They deserved their equaliser – I’m big enough to be able to say that," he said.

"We came across a really good Matlock side after the Macclesfield game, so it’s two big games in 72 hours for us.

"We had more lads out today so we’re patching a few up, so to get a point is a really good one.

"Three points at Leek, a really good performance at Macclesfield and a point here is not a bad return for the week.

"I’m really proud of the boys tonight – they had a lot of set-pieces tonight and we dealt with them really well, but they got one at the end.

"If you’d have said before the game that we’d come away with a point, we’d have taken it."
