WARRINGTON Athletics Club runners made the trip to Heaton Park to compete in the first round of the Manchester Area Cross Country League.

Emilia Gandy finished third in the under 11s girls race in 11mins 27secs to lead the team completed by Ivy Davidson in sixth (11.42) and Ettie Rashud 28th (13.14) to second position.

The squad was completed by Edie McArthur 30th (13.25) and Jessica Treagust 42nd (15.17).

In the boys race, Alex Farrell was and second (10.30) and with Tristan Tickle 19th (11.38) and Leonard Broadhurst 34th (12.20) the team finished fifth.

Percy Booker completed the squad in 44th place (13.12).

Grace Rashud was 36th in the under 13s girls (12.48) and along with Lois Johnston Starrs 45th (13.11) and Charlotte Andrew 70th (15.13) the team finished in 15th place.

In the boys race Aiden Losty was the only runner from the club, crossing the line 56th (16.26).

Evie-May Williams led the under 15s girls team home in 11th place (22.50) with the other counters being Emily Kinsey 19th (24.02) and Eva Hayes 24th (24.57) for sixth place in the team race.

Elizabeth Lees 32nd (25.32) and Annie Noone 33rd (25.41) completed the squad.

In the boys race Alfie Blizzard ninth (20.09) led a well packed team with Oliver Davenport 11th (20.23) and Isaac McGuffie 14th (20.33) to win the team race, while Euan Lawton although a non-counter for the team finished 15th (20.50).

Imogen Wharton ran excellently to win the under 17s women’s race by 50 seconds (21.51) and with Hannah Hull seventh (24.34) and Sinead Gregory 15th (25.52) a second team victory was achieved.

Olivia Haselden 16th (26.08) and Cara Gregory 18th (26.49) completed the squad.

In the under 17s men’s race, Thomas Welsby finished 14th (20.07) and with Elliot Taylor 34th (22.45) and Harvey Howard 39th (24.15) the team came ninth.

Claire Andrew was 18th in 34.15 in the senior women’s race, placing her second in the over 45s age group, while Faye Lawton was 87th (39.37) placing her 10th in the over 35s age group and Joy Ashcroft-Carter was 180th (46.01) placing her 16th in the under 20s age group.

In the senior men’s race, Dan Fox was ninth (29.06) while Adam Rashud was 37th (31.24) placing him seventh in the over 40s age group and Steve Watmough finished 100th (33.57) to win the over 60s age group.

Dave Norman finished in 276th (40.28) placing 10th in the over 60s age group while Mark Gregory 320th (42.27) was 23rd in the over 55s age group. Joao Santos completed the team in 408th place (51.39) for 29 in the team race.

Elsewhere, two Warrington AC master athletes took part in the high-class Leeds Abbey Dash 10K road race on Sunday and both came home with medals in their age groups.

Dave Gill was first to cross the finish line for the club in 42 minutes exactly in 597th place (third in his age group), while Stan Ogden finished in 618th place in 42mins 23secs (second in his age group).

Earlier this month, the English National Road Relays were held at Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield with Warrington Athletics club having a team entered in the senior men’s six-stage race.

The first stage was taken by Dan Fox who, with a time of 18mins 42secs handed over in 52nd place.

Cameron Field took over and improved the placing to 44th with 18.40.

Next up was Jordan Jones and with a time of 19.08 handed over in 46th place.

Jack Wadsworth took over and he recorded 19.56 to pass over in 49th place to Jack Pilkington for the fifth stage.

Wadsworth’s 20.09 meant he handed over for the final stage in 50th place.

Leighton Sharman brought Warrington’s effort to a conclusion in 21mins 29secs and 55th place.

Meanwhile, master athlete Louise Blizzard competed in the MBNA Chester Metric Marathon at Chester Race Course, finishing in 39th place overall with 1hr 55mins 37secs for the 26.2km course.

This placed her sixth woman and third over 45 woman.
