TRY machine Nathan Beesley’s last-ditch score ensured table-topping Lymm made it six wins from six on Saturday.

Captain Beesley completed his hat-trick, and what was his 68th try in 73 appearances, with the last play of the game to secure his side a 37-32 victory away to Dean Richards’ Tynedale side, who are third from bottom in National League 2 North.

The north east outfit gave Lymm a tough day in the rolling maul department, with their hooker Ralph Johnston scoring five tries.

But after the hosts turned down a kickable penalty attempt at 32-32 in the closing minutes, the visitors were rewarded for delivering the last-gasp decisive play, all started by veteran number eight Ollie Higginson stealing Tynedale’s line-out throw for the first time.

Lymm got the ball to the other end and then battered the Northumbrians’ line where eventually left winger Beesley spotted a gap and powerfully went through it for the winning score in a game of highly contrasting styles.

Lymm head coach Andy Davies said: ‘We were under no illusions about how difficult the game at Tynedale would be.

“After watching their games, it was obvious that they were a much better side than their position in the table would suggest, and that was proven.

“We obviously have a lot to work on, but we scored some amazing tries. And the courage and determination shown by the lads to score in the last play of the game should give great confidence to this young squad moving forwards.

“Just alluding to that, we had three debutants today with a quarter of our match-day squad being 20 or under, so absolutely delighted for them to come through this experience with another five points.”

One of the Lymm newcomers, former Kirkham schoolboy and Sale Sharks loanee back row Seb Kelly scored a well-worked opening try for Lymm.

The other debutants, off the bench, were Lymm Colts Academy graduates Olly Thornton and Danny Senior., while Lymm’s other try scorers were James Pitcher and Paddy Jennings. Tom Shard kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Lymm, who dropped to second in the table on points difference after Leeds Tykes defeated Wharfedale 33-12, host seventh-placed Otley on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
