SUPPORTERS who regularly watch NRL matches will be familiar with the VB Hard Earned Index.
For those who aren’t, it is the bringing together of a number of statistics to determine which players have got through the most work in an individual game, or across an entire season.
With that in mind, we have applied the formula – or as close to it as possible with the stats we have available via the Super League website – to the Warrington Wolves squad to determine who was the team’s hardest-working player across the league campaign.
HOW IT IS WORKED OUT
We doubled each player’s total carries and then added to it their number of tackles, tackle busts and offloads.
Then, a point is taken away for every missed tackle, four are deducted for every error and penalty conceded and cards costs eight points.
At that point, a final number is given.
To make things slightly fairer, we have only considered players who played 10 or more Super League games while figures are not publicly available for the likes of John Bateman, Max Wood and Arron Lindop among others.
Only figures from the 27 regular-season rounds of Super League have been considered.
WHO COMES OUT ON TOP?
Coming top of the Wire squad’s “Hard Earned Index” for 2024 is forward Luke Yates with a score of 1,324.
That number is reached when the stats from his time at Huddersfield Giants before joining Warrington in July are included to give a true picture of his work across the entire campaign.
In terms of players who have been a part of Sam Burgess’ squad for the entire year, Ben Currie has the highest score with 1,212 with three other players – George Williams, Matt Dufty and Paul Vaughan – recording scores of more than 1,000.
