WARRINGTON Wolves’ 2024 campaign is now ready to be put into the history books.

There have been highs aplenty as The Wire improved dramatically in Sam Burgess’ first season as head coach, while there were also some heartbreaking lows – the most recent being Friday’s Super League semi-final loss to Hull KR.

Now, it’s time for us to wrap up the past eight months of action…

Warrington Wolves’ 2024 season in numbers

In total, Warrington Wolves played 33 competitive fixtures during the 2024 season – 27 regular Super League games, two play-off matches and four Challenge Cup ties.

Those matches yielded 24 victories and nine defeats, leaving Burgess with a win percentage of 72.7 per cent from his first year in charge.

Their 33 matches saw them score 898 points at an average of 27.2 per game, while they conceded 387 at an average of 11.7 per game.

They scored 157 tries (4.8 per game average) during the season and conceded 71 (2.2 per game average).

Their biggest margin of victory was the 66-0 thrashing of Huddersfield Giants in Round 26 of Super League in September, while the widest margin of defeat was 18 points, when they were beaten 22-4 by Hull KR in Round 20 back in August.

Warrington Wolves player stats 2024

Only one player appeared in all 33 of Warrington’s competitive fixtures this year, with hooker Sam Powell the sole ever-present having started 10 games and made 23 interchange appearances.

Danny Walker missed just two games, with Matty Ashton featuring in all bar four fixtures.

In total, Sam Burgess used 34 players this season including 12 who were playing for the club for the very first time.

That includes off-season signings Powell, Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Rodrick Tai, Zane Musgrove and Max Wood as well as mid-season additions Luke Yates and John Bateman.

Five academy graduates were given first-team debuts this season with centre Arron Lindop (nine) and full-back Cai Taylor-Wray (six) making multiple appearances.

Outside-back Jake Thewlis, second rower Nolan Tupaea and hooker Ben Hartill all made their senior debuts in the Round 13 loss to Wigan Warriors in June the week before the Challenge Cup Final.

Ashton finished as the club’s leading try-scorer with 32 as he became the first Wire player since Joel Monaghan in 2014 to score 30 tries in a single season.

Matt Dufty (20) was not far behind while four other players reached double figures for tries scored – Josh Thewlis (15), Toby King (12) George Williams and Matty Nicholson (both 10).

Thewlis finished as the club’s leading goal-kicker (82) and point scorer (224), with Stefan Ratchford (42) and Josh Drinkwater (10) also kicking goals.

Warrington only had two drop goals kicked during 2024, both courtesy of Williams and both in games against St Helens.

The first came during the 31-8 Challenge Cup quarter-final victory at the Totally Wicked Stadium in April, with the more memorable second being the golden-point winner to edge last month’s play-off eliminator tie.
