AT first glance, Warrington Town’s current issues do not appear to lie in attacking areas.

With his first game back in charge now in the books, however, new boss Paul Carden says a key focus going forward will be turning them into more of a goalscoring threat.

Yellows have scored in every game this season and have kept just one clean sheet at the other end, but a closer look reveals more.

Only once have they scored more than once in a game - the 2-1 victory over Kidderminster Harriers in late-August - while they have now not found the net from open play in their past three matches.

Connor Woods’ dead-ball prowess served them well again on Saturday, with his emphatic penalty deep into injury time rescuing a 1-1 draw at Chorley after he had netted free kicks in the draw with Spennymoor and the FA Cup loss to Radcliffe, whom they visit in the National League North on Saturday.

“I knew there were a lot of good things already going on,” he said following the weekend’s draw.

“Sometimes you just don’t get that bounce, a bit of rub of the green or you’re on the wrong end of a decision – that’s football and it happens at all levels.

“In terms of the group that’s here, there’s obviously a lot of lads that I know like I’ve said before, but I also know there’s a lot of quality here.

“We’ve just got to try and work that quality so we get more of it out and we look more of a threat.

“Obviously, that will take a little bit of time and work, but it’s something we’ll definitely be focusing on.”

Saturday’s game sees them visit a Radcliffe side whose only victory this season to date came at Cantilever Park last month, when an injury-time Jordan Hulme winner secured a 2-1 FA Cup second qualifying round victory.

In the league, they have found the step-up difficult having won the Northern Premier League Premier Division title at a canter last season and are still looking for their first National League North victory.
