SATURDAY was the perfect day for Lymm Rugby Club.

There were convincing victories for all three senior teams, all of which involved the passing of 50 points.

And as director of rugby Adam Fletcher says, those kinds of occasions are “definitely worth celebrating.”

The first team led the way by beating local rivals Chester 51-19 to make it two wins out of two in the National 2 North.

A stunning first-half performance saw them go into the break with a 41-5 lead thanks to six tries from as many different scorers, with fly-half Tom Shard adding four conversions and a penalty.

After Chester had responded to Paddy Jennings’ opener with a try of their own, Lymm took the game away from them and effectively had the five points wrapped up before half time as Cal Morris, Ste Pilkington, Sam Wadsworth, Nathan Beesley and Harry Martin all touched down.

And when Rob Makin scored the first try of the second half just after the interval, it completed a sequence of 41 points without reply for the visitors.

Chester did at least restore some pride with two more tries either side of another Shard penalty that took the visitors to the half-century, but the game had long since gone.

And when news came through of victories for the club’s second and third teams against their Macclesfield counterparts – 65-22 and 73-22 respectively – it made for quite an evening back at Crouchley Lane.

“What a great performance – the boys have worked hard over the last three months and are now reaping the rewards,” Fletcher said.

 “It was even more pleasing to hear the winning results of the 2’s and 3’s games. We don’t get many clean sweeps so when they come along, they are definitely worth celebrating.

 “The atmosphere back at the club was excellent, it was great to see the 1’s and 2’s mixing and all enjoying a beer together. The club should be very proud of all the Lymm players today.

 “We’re looking forward to playing in front of our fans next week – it’s been a while. We’re also looking forward to a big crowd.”

Head coach Andy Davies added: “An awesome day all round, with all three Lymm teams winning.

 “In the first half, we were in devastating form and were very clinical with the ball but hats off to Tom Bray, the defence coach, and Mark Williams, the forwards coach, for the work they’ve done on defence and set piece.

“We’re putting teams under immense pressure, which is providing plenty of opportunities to counter-attack.

 “It wasn’t a perfect showing so still lots of work to do at training, but the boys are taking everything on board and working hard and they deserve to be very proud of the performances they have put in so far.”

The first team play their first home fixture of the season on Saturday as they host Fylde, kick off 2.30pm.

Meanwhile, Warrington RUFC maintained their winning start to the season – but they had to do it the hard way.

They trailed Oldham 21-15 in the second half despite tries from Kyle Cherrett, Matt Beeley and Ryan Eastwood, but they then clicked into gear to run out 43-21 winners.

Chris White scored to take them in front and seal a four-try bonus point, with a penalty try then taking them eight points ahead.

There was to be no response from the hosts as White then scored his second try before Joe Craven touched down to round off the victory.

Warrington’s next game sees them host Leigh at Grappenhall Sports Club on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
