SAM Burgess was delighted with how his side kept their foot on the gas to run up a huge scoreline at Huddersfield Giants on Saturday night.

The 66-0 final score told the full tale of a dominant Warrington display, with the visitors running in 12 tries at the John Smith's Stadium.

It was a result that kept their mathematical hopes of finishing second in Super League - thereby skipping the eliminator round of the play-offs and earning a home semi-final - alive going into the final round of matches.

Here is everything the Wire boss said post-match...

Q: I suppose you couldn’t have asked for much more than that?

SB: Not really – I thought we were really disciplined. I was happy with the discipline to stay with the plan for the entire game.

There was a tiny period where we went off track, but I’m glad they got back on track!

It was a good performance and I was happy with it.

Q: I’m sure from your point of view, the zero points against will have been just as satisfying as the 66 for – you had Cai Taylor-Wray chasing back in the final seconds to stop an intercept to keep the clean sheet!

SB: I was proud of the defence.

We’re aware Huddersfield have got a lot of guys out, but I wanted us to still be disciplined in our defence with no lapses in concentration and putting our best foot forward.

We did that, so I couldn’t ask for much more than that.

I would have been a bit upset if he’d had gone the length at the end but I was happy Cai and Matty Ashton chased him back.

Q: What was the chat at half time? Was it basically just telling them to keep their foot down?

SB: There were a couple of choices to make – we could have taken our foot off the gas and got a bit scrappy, but we kept our discipline and stayed at it.

That’s another sign of our progression as a team – we’ve been in that kind of position a couple of times and haven’t quite gone on with it.

We missed a few opportunities last week, but we took them today.

Q: Does that kind of result and performance send out a message that you still feel like you’re alive in terms of finishing second, or is that not really in your mind?

SB: It’s out of our hands, so it’s something I’ve completely stopped worrying about.

We lost a couple of weeks ago to the red card that we now see yellows for, so it’s out of the picture for us so we’ve got to move on.

When things are out of our hands, we don’t waste too much energy on them. We’ll just concentrate on getting our performances out on the field.

We’ve got to be good for the next few weeks, so we’ll look forward to that challenge.

Q: Eight different try-scorers with forwards and backs scoring – do you feel like you’re in good form as the play-offs approach?

SB: We’re building.

The intensity of the game wasn’t really there tonight due to the score. We’d have liked to have kept the ball in play a bit more and put our players under pressure, but we can simulate that at training this week.

We’ll get a good contest next week before the finals.

I think next week will be 31 games straight, which is a long time to get yourself into form.

We’ve learned a lot of lessons in that time and we’ve tweaked a couple of things, but we should know all about our game by now.

Q: Ideally, would you like a week off? You could still potentially get it

SB: It’s a luxury at this time of year as everyone is carrying bumps and bruises.

It’s probably not going to be the case for us this year, but that’s okay. It’s just another game and another chance for us to play together.
