AFTER a difficult start to the new season, Mark Beesley says it is important that Warrington Town learn lessons – and learn them quickly.

Yellows’ second season in the National League North got off to torrid start on Saturday, with a 3-1 defeat on the road at an impressive King’s Lynn Town side.

Beesley’s side were outplayed on the day, with Matty McDonald’s second-half consolation being the only thing they had to show for their efforts in Norfolk.

Now, their bid to bounce back sees them welcome Peterborough Sports to Cantilever Park on Saturday for their first competitive home fixture of the season.

Of their next six fixtures, five will be at home and it is a run Town will be keen to take advantage of but in order to do that, Beesley insists they have to take on board the lessons they were taught on the opening day.

“We’ve got to learn quick,” he said.

“It’s never nice to lose but if you learn from it, you can put up with it.

“We’ve got to be more ‘at it’ and more aggressive in our play as well as making the right decisions.

“If we’re playing well, it’s about how we’re moving and if we’re not, it’s about getting in and being compact.

“At times, we got caught between the two on Saturday.”

What Town have had this week is the luxury of time to work on things, with two training sessions on Tuesday and tonight, Thursday, before they face Peterborough.

It is not a luxury they will have in the weeks to come, with a midweek trip to South Shields coming up on Tuesday before a home double header over the August Bank Holiday weekend against Kidderminster Harriers and Farsley Celtic.

As such, Beesley says it is imperative they use this time properly.

“We need to work on things on Tuesday and Thursday, which we will, and prepare for Peterborough which will be a tough game like every game,” he said.

“It’s a tough game at home, but it’s important that we use this week on how we set up and play and be better for it.”

Town are not thought to have any fresh injury concerns, with centre-back Tom Hannigan (knee) continuing to be monitored while captain Josh Amis (shoulder) is still several weeks away from fitness.

Forward Matty Grivosti will miss Saturday's game and Tuesday's trip to South Shields as he completes a suspension that was still outstanding from last season.
