WARRINGTON Wolves had a celebrity in the camp for their game at London Broncos on Sunday afternoon.

As they emerged for their pre-match walkabout at the Cherry Red Records Stadium, it became clear they had been joined by ex-special forces soldier, author and former star of hit Channel Four series “SAS: Who Dares Wins” Ant Middleton.

Middleton and Burgess are firm friends after the Wire head coach appeared on – and won – the Australian celebrity version of the former soldier’s SAS programme back in 2021.

Part of the pre-season programme he constructed for his Warrington squad was an army camp in Kent led by Middleton, whose son Gabriel has been training with the team’s younger players of late.

“Ant was a big part of the start of our year,” Burgess said.

“His son Gabriel is an aspiring athlete and he’s been with us during his school holidays training as part of our junior system.

“This was a bit of a handover back to him – he’s not often in England these days so it was good for him to catch up with the team and so where they’re at.

“Last time he saw them, he was yelling at them and throwing them in and out of the sea, so it was nice for them to see him in a normal habitat.

“He’s a great mate of mine and he’s a great bloke to have around.”
