WARRINGTON Wolves are about to start a month on the road – and that may well be a good thing.

Because as head coach Sam Burgess referenced during an interview following Friday’s defeat to Hull KR, their home form is certainly something they could be happier with.

The 22-4 Round 20 reverse was their fourth defeat in 11 matches at The Halliwell Jones Stadium this year with Catalans Dragons, Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils having also left victorious.

The Wire have picked up 14 points each at home and on the road this year, but they have played two fewer away fixtures.

That record gives them the best away win percentage of any Super League side this season with 77.8, which could give them heart given four of their last seven regular-season fixtures are on the road.

They visit London Broncos for the second time this season on Saturday, with trips to Castleford Tigers (August 23), Leigh Leopards (August 30) and Huddersfield Giants (September 15) before the year ends as well as the Magic Weekend clash with Leeds Rhinos.

By contrast, their home win percentage of 63.6 per cent is the lowest among sides currently in the top six.

When speaking to Sky Sports after Friday’s game, Burgess admitted their home form has not really got off the ground this year, much to his frustration.

And with only two more home fixtures left in the regular season against St Helens (September 6) and London Broncos (September 20), there is little scope to alter that.

“We’re still yet to really nail our game here at The Halliwell Jones Stadium,” he said.

“When we play away, we’re fantastic so we’ve just got to nail what we do here and give the supporters what they deserve.

“The support is always great here and there was a good crowd here tonight. We’ve only got two home games left so hopefully, we can fill it up.”
