WARRINGTON Wolves’ failings during their defeat to Hull KR on Friday night were forced upon them by their visitors.

That was the view of Sky Sports pundits Jon Wilkin and Jodie Cunningham after The Wire fell to defeat in their top-of-the-table clash with the Robins.

Willie Peters’ side left The Halliwell Jones Stadium with a well-deserved 22-4 victory having established an early lead and defended their line manfully under pressure before securing the win in the final quarter.

It was certainly an off night for Sam Burgess’ side but in their post-match analysis, former St Helens man Wilkin and current England women’s captain Cunningham believed much of that was down to their opponents.

“Sublime from Hull KR from start to finish,” Wilkin said.

“They dictated the intensity of the game, primarily defensively. I thought they were pretty much flawless in that department.

“They made what is an incredibly threatening team in Warrington look flat and almost redundant at times.

“Sometimes that can because a team like Warrington haven’t turned up or played, but Hull KR initiated all of the problems that Warrington had.

“Last plays were a problem, but Hull KR’s kick chase was exceptional. Their line speed and intensity just far outweighed their opponents’”

Cunningham added: “That was all Hull KR’s attitude.

“For me, this game and these two points were more important for Hull KR with the games both of these sides have coming up, and they played like that.

“The attitude, the willingness to defend for each other, put pressure on Warrington and force errors was outstanding.”

The pundits also discussed the individual performance of Warrington skipper George Williams compared to that of his England teammate Mikey Lewis, who starred for the Robins and was named Sky’s player of the match.

“It didn’t work for George tonight, but Hull KR dictated that. They nullified him as a threat,” Wilkin said.

“Mikey Lewis competed in every moment. George Williams himself is a fierce competitor – it’s not like George himself had a horrendous game but Mikey Lewis got the better of it tonight.”
