HAVING won their past five matches in succession, Warrington Wolves are Super League’s form team at this moment in time.

It is a run that has taken them to the top of the Super League table ahead of another big clash with Hull KR – the team immediately behind them – coming up at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday.

And one thing that has underpinned their current run of form is the starts they have made to matches, setting the tone for what has followed.

In each of the five games they have won in a row, they have scored the opening try inside the first 10 minutes and in three of them – home wins over Huddersfield and Leeds and Friday’s victory at Wigan – they have scored before the clock has hit five minutes.

Indeed, the Leeds game saw them score twice inside the opening five minutes to take a firm grip of the game.

Opening try times for Warrington Wolves’ five straight wins

v Hull FC – Toby King, 6th minute

v Huddersfield – Paul Vaughan, 2nd minute

v Leeds – Matty Ashton, 2nd minute

v Saints – Matty Ashton, 10th minute

v Wigan – Arron Lindop, 3rd minute

In total, Warrington have scored 28 tries in the opening 20 minutes of matches this year, conceding just 13.

However, the opening quarter is still not been their most fruitful during their 23 matches in all competitions in 2024.

That honour belongs to the final quarter – minutes 61-80 – in which The Wire have scored 32 tries and conceded just 11.

Their record for tries scored and conceded is exactly the same – scored 24, conceded 14 – in both the second (21-40mins) and third (41-60mins) quarters this year.
