IN terms of both results and performances, Sam Burgess is in his most difficult spell as Warrington Wolves head coach to date.

However, he insists he and the players retain full belief in their methods and that rather than changing anything, he says they must them out with more intent.

The Wire followed up their Challenge Cup Final defeat with another flat showing against Salford Red Devils last time out, with a 25-14 loss making it three in a row in all competitions.

In their final game before Super League pauses for the international break, The Wire visit an improving Hull FC side on Saturday in need of a pick-me-up.

Burgess affirmed there is no panic within the ranks about his side’s blip in form and having attributed part of Friday’s defeat to a “hangover” from their Wembley exploits, he is confident that is now fully out of their system.

“For us, it’s about getting back to the process we believe in that we’ve built over pre-season,” he said.

“The results in the past couple of weeks haven’t gone our way but it hasn’t deterred our energy and commitment to the process.

“We’re just going after that again this week – we’ve had a great week’s practice and hopefully we’ll put it onto the field on Saturday.

“There’s no need to panic but we just need to get our jobs done with a bit of intent behind it. That message has been pretty simple to them.

“Nothing is going to change – we’re going to stick to the process we believe works.

“The further you go into a competition, the deeper the wounds get.

“We’ve learned from that as a group and I’ve certainly learned what I need to do more of and be better at as a coach.

“When we have those kinds of situations again going forward, we’ll be better.”

Despite last week’s defeat, Warrington remain fourth in the Super League table with the competition now past the halfway mark.

Salford are now level on points with The Wire with Catalans Dragons two points further back while above them, Hull KR are two points ahead with leading pair St Helens and Wigan Warriors another brace of points clear.

However, Burgess insists now is not the time to be too worried about how the table looks.

“I’m not really too fussed about it yet. I don’t think it’s worth looking at,” he said.

“I get told where we’re sitting and how we’re going but for us, it’s about getting our process right.

“If we do our jobs more often than not, results and the table will take care of themselves.

“I’ll look more towards the back end to see where we’re at and what we need to do but for now, it’s all on us and trying to improve our game week-by-week.”

Saturday sees them make the long trip to Humberside to take on a Black and Whites side buoyed by ending an 11-match losing sequence by beating Leeds Rhinos last time out.

While they remain in a lowly position in the table and have already been beaten twice by The Wire at The Halliwell Jones Stadium this year in Rounds Two and 10, Burgess insists they will not be taken the side led by former Warrington forward Simon Grix lightly.

“You have to prep well for every game,” he said.

“Leeds got beat there last week so they’re not a walkover by any stretch, and they’re improving.

“We’ll get our jobs right as well as trying to control them.”
