WARRINGTON Rugby Union Club under 15s are one win away from finishing top of their group in the Lancashire Cup.
This is due to their latest success, a 26-14 victory at dogged Blackburn on Sunday as they maintained their perfect record.
A workmanlike first half was produced, with the strong Warrington pack doing the damage down the middle against a resilient Blackburn defence.
Eventually the break came with a barnstorming run from second rower Keane Hoyes who burst through the defence and round the full-back.
Hooker and captain McKenzie Morris showed his pace, footwork and power to break several tackles for the second.
A few loose passes and failed opportunities kept the home team in the hunt before Freddie Hartill stepped through on the short side.
With the conversions from Hartill too, Warrington led 21-0 at the break.
The second half began in a similar form with a Jack Pendlebury cross-field kick collected by Paddy Shephard for a try in the corner.
However, the game wasn't done, with Blackburn rallying and showing their resilience, pinning Warrington in their own 22 for most of the second half and claiming two tries of their own.
Warrington coach Iain Pybus was mixed in his assessment: "The first half of rugby was close to our best of the season.
“Blackburn are a good side and we didn't have it all our own way but our intensity never dipped.
“After the second half early score we relaxed a little and a few dropped balls meant that we defended for most of the second half.
“The lads defended well but they made it unnecessarily hard for themselves and unnecessarily stressful for their coaches and the travelling Warrington support."
The final group stage game of the Lancashire Cup is against Vale of Lune on Sunday.
