SPRINTER Lewis Shaw has broken another club record.

The Warrington Athletics Club starlet lowered the 60m mark to 7.42secs in winning his under 17s race at the Manchester Open Indoor Meeting at Sportcity Manchester on Sunday.

Last month, Shaw went faster than any Warrington AC runner before him in the 60m hurdles at another Manchester Open Indoor meeting, clocking 8.20secs – he managed 8.32 in victory in this event on Sunday.

He also registered 7.56secs in the 60m on that day in December and 7.44secs a week later.

Six of his clubmates also contested events at Sportcity at the weekend.

In the 60m series, Rebecca Hardy finished fourth in her race with a season’s best time of 8.22secs while under 15 Tallie Sze was second in her race with a season’s best 8.21 secs. At the same age group, Hilary Lam finished fifth with a personal best 8.57secs.

The 200m series included under 20 Lisa Halliday setting a new pb 27.63secs to win her race, while Sze also won her race with a season’s best 27.56secs and under 17 Ellie Barker was second in her race with a season’s best 27.89secs.

In the 60m hurdles series, Hardy won her race in 9.44secs with Halliday in fourth place with 9.90 secs. Olivia Crawford was second in her under 15s race with a season’s best 9.73secs.

Lam finished third under 15 girl in the long jump with a personal best 4.26 metres.

Three Warrington AC runners tackled the Ribble Valley 10k road race, incorporating the North of England Championships, against a high-class field from all over the UK.

First to finish for Warrington was Brandon Quinton in 18th place in 30mins 49secs, placing him 12th in the North of England.

Next to finish was master athlete Steve Watmough in 199th place overall in 36mins 55secs, earning him third in the over 60s age group and first in the age group in the North of England, and 129th overall in the North of England.

Louise Blizzard completed the squad in 440th place overall with 42mins 36secs which placed her 73rd woman, 54th in the North of England and secured her the over 45 woman’s age group despite an Achilles tendon problem.

Rounding up the past few weeks, Dave Gill ended 2023 in style in Hartfordshire’s Buntingford Year End 10 miles road race, incorporating the British Masters Championships.

He finished in 80th place overall in 66mins 43secs to win the silver medal in the British Masters on what was a testing hilly course with lots of tight turns through a housing estate.

This made it Gill’s seventh British Masters medal of the year - five gold, one silver and one bronze.

He also won six Northern golds and three Cheshire golds, and represented England on three occasions while also leading the rankings in the 2000m steeplechase.

Dave Watson finished 10th in his 3,000m at Cardiff Metropolitan University in the Christmas Classic Indoor Meeting, incorporating the Welsh Masters Championships.

His personal best 11mins 29.57secs won him the over 65s gold medal.

Claire Andrew was sixth overall and first woman in the Run Through Tatton Park 5K road race in 19 mins 13secs.
