GARY Chambers says there have been no developments on Peter Mata’utia’s Warrington Wolves future “that he is aware of.”

The centre, who has been ever-present for The Wire this season, is the one remaining first-team regular who is out of contract at the end of the current season.

It is believed the club have an option in their favour to extend the Samoan international’s deal by a further year – something which is also the case for winger Matty Russell and several younger players including Adam Holroyd and Luke Thomas.

Outside back Greg Minikin is also out of contract but is expected to leave the club having been heavily linked with a move to Featherstone Rovers for next year.

Upon assuming the director of rugby role next year, Chambers will have an active role in recruitment and retention going forward but says he is leaving the sorting out of players’ futures to others for now as he focuses on steering the team through until the end of the year.

“Not that I’m aware of,” he said when asked whether there had been any developments on Mata’utia’s future.

“That will be something I’ll get to down the line but at the moment, that’s for other people rather than me. My focus is just on what’s going on with the team at the moment.

“Karl (Fitzpatrick, chief executive) will be working along with what happens with players and everything that goes with that.”
