SIGNS that Warrington Town’s injury crisis is catching up with them have started to appear.
After a difficult and fruitless Bank Holiday weekend during which another key player entered the treatment room, however, manager Mark Beesley has called upon the club as a whole to stick together.
Town make the long trip to Brackley Town tomorrow knowing they are likely to be without defender Evan Gumbs for a significant period with a hernia injury.
The club’s reigning player of the year was substituted during Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Boston United and missed the 4-1 Bank Holiday Monday defeat to Curzon Ashton.
He joins midfielders Jay Harris (groin) and Matty McDonald (knee) and striker Josh Amis (knee) on the injured list to stretch the Yellows squad even further.
However, Beesley says his side must find a better way of coping without them giving none are expected to return in the immediate future.
“It's bad news on Evan unfortunately – he’s going for a scan but it’s looking like a hernia,” Beesley said.
“We’ve got key players out and it could be said that I’m making excuses but I’m not. They’re facts – they are key players for us.
“We need to get them back as quick as we can but if we can’t, we need to find a way of competing better than we have been doing.
“We’ve got to stick together at this point – I know the supporters will stick with us and it’s important we stick together as a group.
“We’ve got three league games coming up before a breather for the FA Cup and it’s really important that we take points from them.”
Yellows will be boosted this weekend by the return of Bohan Dixon, who will return to the fold for the trip to Northamptonshire.
The midfielder and vice-captain has completed a three-match suspension following his sending-off against Blyth Spartans earlier this month.
“We’ve definitely missed him as he’s a leader on and off the pitch,” Beesley said of Dixon.
“He knows he let us down and he owes us one, but it’s clear we’ve missed him and we need him.”
