LUCY Glover and her crewmates will have the opportunity to defend their European Championships title.
The 24-year-old Warrington Rowing Club ace, who also represents Edinburgh University when racing, will go into this week’s event in Bled, Slovenia, as a 2022 gold medal winner in the women’s quadruple sculls.
Tokyo 2020 Olympian Glover, a former student at Lymm High School, will be alongside Lauren Henry (Leicester RC/University of Leicester BC), who is making her senior team debut, Hannah Scott (Bann RC/Leander Club) and Georgie Brayshaw (Leander Club).
They are among 62 athletes who will represent the Great Britain rowing team from Thursday to Sunday.
Louise Kingsley, British Rowing director of performance, said: “After a long winter of training and testing, Bled will be the first opportunity to see how our crews perform this season as we look ahead to qualifying boats for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games later this year.
“We are in a good place and had some fantastic results last year, but we know we need to step on and keep improving to build on last season’s successes.”
Glover started rowing, 12 years old, at Warrington Rowing Club and won a silver medal at the World Rowing Junior Championships in the quad (JW4x) in 2016.
Moving up to U23 level, she won gold, bronze and then gold again in the women’s quad from 2017-2019.
She made her senior debut at the European Rowing Championships in 2021, where she won a silver medal in the quad (W4x).
The crew then raced at the Tokyo Olympic regatta, where they finished seventh.
In 2022 her W4x finished fourth at World Cup I but doubled up in double sculls; Glover winning bronze with Jess Leyden, just behind their crew mates.
The quad then took the silver medal at World Cup III before winning a superb gold at the European Rowing Championships.
