WITH his future secure, Danny Walker is looking forward to continuing his development and making sure the next few years are as successful as possible.

It has been confirmed that Walker has become the latest player to commit their long-term future to Warrington Wolves by signing a two-year extension to his contract.

Now tied to the club until November 2026, the ensuing years look set to see the newly-capped England international become his hometown club’s undisputed first-choice number nine given Daryl Clark’s increasingly likely departure at the end of this year.

In the eyes of many, that is a position he has assumed regardless after an impressive start to 2023 having become an ever-present member of the table-topping Wire squad.

The 23-year-old is happy and to rivals, that spells danger.

“I came into pre-season wanting to change a few things within myself,” Walker said.

“At times last year I was probably pointing the finger and not looking at myself. I feel like I’ve definitely gone away and thought a bit about that.

“I’ve come back and I’m enjoying my rugby at the minute and playing with a smile on my face – a happy player is usually a dangerous player.

“I feel like we’ve got something special building here.

“It’s not just being part of the team, it’s the coaching staff and everyone around the club – you can feel it’s a special place.

“I want to be part of what will hopefully be a very successful few years.”

Anything Warrington-born Walker does achieve in his time in primrose and blue will feel all the more special given he has gone from adoring fan to adored player.

Having had a season ticket in the East Stand with his family as a youngster, he knows all about the bond between squad and supporters – something the club were keen to rebuild after a torrid 2022 season saw relations between the two reach a nadir.

With all bar one of their home games so far seeing crowds of 10,000 and above, things are certainly improving this year and Walker is keen to see that continue.

“The fans have been mega for us this year so far. The crowds have been unheard of over the last couple of years especially,” he said.

“After the year we had last year, we wanted to really rebuild that bond with the fans.

“We want to make the fans proud of the team that works their hardest every time they pull the shirt on. I feel we’ve been doing that.

“Hopefully we can keep making them proud and pulling the crowds in to support us.”
