PAUL Vaughan caught the eye on his Warrington Wolves debut last night – and the impact many saw against Leeds Rhinos is backed up in the numbers.

Signed from Canterbury Bulldogs in the off-season, the former New South Wales representative led from the front as The Wire impressively saw off last season’s Grand Finalists.

He played 61 minutes in total in the front row – 55 of them coming in an uninterrupted stint from kick-off before coming back on for the last knockings.

Vaughan carried the ball 24 times and made a staggering 278 metres – an average of 11.58 metres per carry.

The 31-year-old, who has been capped internationally by both Italy and Australia, made 139 of those metres after contact.

It is little wonder then that he was named as Sky Sports’ man of the match, with Wire head coach Daryl Powell hailing his performance as “phenomenal.”
